Route inforamtion

The starting points for the R2 route are Oittaa and Pirttimäki. Both are accessible by bus and offer parking for cars. The route is approximately 13 kilometers long, but you can easily tailor the trip to your needs by completing only certain sections or repeating your favorite parts.

The journey begins on wide outdoor tracks at both ends. The route then veers into the forest, utilizing both existing paths and newly constructed trails. The route intersects with wider outdoor tracks at several points. For safety reasons, it is crucial to use the designated separate lanes for downhill cycling and other users in certain descents. The entire route is marked with R2 signs. Download the GPX track:

The terrain ranges from traditional technical sections with roots and rocks to winding gravel paths on gentle slopes. Parts of the trail are reinforced with crushed stone, and boardwalks cover damp areas. Most of the route is classified as an intermediate mountain biking trail.

Note: Construction work continues between Oittaa and Pirttimäki even after the official opening. The trail alignment will be finalized during the summer; please check this website for the latest updates. During winter, parts of the R2 route are used as cross-country skiing tracks. All other use of the route is strictly prohibited during the skiing season.

Shared Trails & Etiquette

All users share the responsibility for a safe and pleasant experience on the trails. Please show consideration for others by maintaining a safe speed during encounters and announcing your approach with a bell or a friendly shout. Greetings and smiles are highly encouraged!

Accessibility

The R2 route is not accessible. While sections consist of crushed stone tracks or narrow gravel paths, the majority of the trail runs over forest ground and rock with significant roots and stones.
