Destination information
The Karjakaivo recreation area stretches from Hynkänlampi in the south to Ruuhijärvi in the north. The Karjakaivo and Pirttimäki recreation areas are closely linked.
There are plenty of trails for the hiker to choose from at Karjakaivo. The trails of the Haltia Nature Centre are ideal for smaller trips, while the route which crosses Karjakaivo and continues into Pirttimäki will provide more of a challenge. The latter route is a cross-country skiing track in the winter. Up to date information on skiing tracks.
You can park at the Haltia Nature Centre (Nuuksiontie 84, 02820 Espoo) or at the Solvalla sports institution (Nuuksiontie 82, 02820 Espoo) and also at the north-eastern part of the area at Hauklampi.
Routes
There are 11 kilometres of waymarked gravel trails at Karjakaivo, of which 7 kilometres have lighting. These routes are cross-country skiing tracks in the winter. It is a 7.5 kilometre walk from Pirttimäki to Solvalla via Karjakaivo.
Maahisenkierros accessible trail, 2 km.
The route starts from the top of the hill at the left corner of the yard at Solvalla Areena. The route then leads to an accessible viewing platform, where you can see lake Pitkäjärvi and the vast forests surrounding Nuuksio’s many lakes.
Päivättärenpolku trail (1.4 km)
The Päivättärenpolku trail has been waymarked with pine cone symbols. This nature trail starts at the red info hut next to the parking area at Haltia. Along the route there are information boards with interesting facts about Nuuksio’s nature. The route is challenging as it includes many steep slopes.
Connection to Nuuksio National Park (4.6 km)
From Päivättärenpolku there is a path connection to the heart of the Nuuksio National Park, Haukkalampi. There are challenging slopes on this trail, but there are steps in the steepest parts.
Accessibility
Maahisen kierros is a challenging route suitable for wheelchairs. Some of the other routes follow easy-access gravel trails while some have steep slopes. There is an accessible toilet at Haltia Nature Centre.
Additional information
Haltia Nature Centre is a modern event venue and exhibition centre where you can find an exhibition on Finnish nature, meeting spaces, a restaurant, outdoor gear for hire and a small shop. Solvalla is a national sports institution.
